I am currently running windows ME. I am able to load Windows XP home
edition but apparently I am loading it onto an existing partition which
already contains the ME operating system. The computer will run very well
for about two months. After that, the XP operating system gets corrupted
and ceases to perform some functions and goes into slow motion mode. My
question is this: Can I safely delete completely the ME operating system
that came with the computer before loading XP and if so, how do I go about
deleting ME and will this process delete it from the partition and leave the
partition in tact or will I need to create a new partition on which to load
XP? If so, how do I go about creating a new partition?

New question: On my "System_sav(D:) drive, I have only 6% disk space
available. Is this normal or should I seek further advice on how to clean
up this drive?

The most likely reason that XP will corrupt and slow down for you is:

1) No AntiVirus software
2) No firewall to prevent hackers
3) No anti-spyware removal tools

XP is a "open" version of Windows. It does not have anti-virus built-in and
we need to "close" all the access from the Internet to your system. If not,
you can get "hacked" or infected/infested.

You can do a complete install of XP. Just look for the info on how to do a
"clean" install.

Then its NOT due to upgrading winME.

Is your XP Home a full retail or upgrade? If full version, you can do clean
install. Note this will clean this partition completely. You need to save
valuable files elsewhere although it doesn't sound like you have any room.
You mention D drive is 94% full. You need to evaluate these files and
purchase/obtain add'l HD space, if necessary.

I have an XP SP2 Upgrade MS CD, and am able to do full, clean, installs
with it. All I have to do is put in any old win98 cd as proof when
asked.
