Loading problems

Two weeks ago - after taking it abroad by car - my computer didn't startup
anymore.
Initially, I thought there was something wrong with the HD.
I could startup from the CD, and reinstalling WindowsXP and Excel+Word
(2003)
(and many other things) brought my system back to live, but it's behaviour
has changed.

Each time I load Excel, it starts by opening a window "Installing components
for Microsoft Excel"
and "Installing Microsoft Excel feature".
If I interupt this with "Cancel", Excel loads without further problem...

Why ? What is wrong ?

It sounds to me like you may need to do a full restore of your machine.
When you say you took it abroad by car, do you mean you went somewhere with
inadequate/incompatable power? Did the laptop get dropped? It sounds like
something happened.

If nothing physical happened to the device, Then I would have to say that
your hard drive is failing, and a bad sector could be causing your problem.
I would run scandisk and check for bad sectors.

Short of failing hardware, you could also have some sort of computer virus
that could slowly delete parts of files, I would run a Virus Scan (AVG makes
a decent free one) Barring all that, you can always try a full system restore
to factory defaults if your system has that feature.
