load at start up

i can't get it not to load at start up. i've changed the
settings, saved, got confirmation, but it just goes back
to loading. i can't do upgrades cause it blocks
them.?????????

I've seen other reports that claim that Microsoft Antispyware is blocking
upgrades, and I don't understand them--what upgrades, and how can you tell?
Do you get any messages from Microsoft Antispyware?
