LMHOSTS file keeps being overwritten

Hello

Windows XP Pro SP2 logging onto domain. One machine lets me enter entries
into it's host file, but as soon as the machine is logged off it is
overwrittn with a new hosts file. We have tried deleteing the hosts file,
changening security on it etc etc but to no avail, it still keeps being
overwritten by a new one at logoff/logon.

Has anyone seen this before, I;ve had a good look on technet but can't find
any answers.
 
What is in the host file that is forced back? Wasn't there a virus a few
years ago that was doing this?

Anything we enter Frank, most bizarre, even when u delete it it makes a new
one, will try the virus theory, TY.
