Such a distribution would be illegal in the US.

(e-mail address removed) lives in the US ?

I didn't understand the question. Can you repeat it for a lay reader ?

Why?

Curious... The m4a website doesn't mention anything about it being
patented, etc. In fact they make a point of it not being encumbered by
any such stuff....

Have you tried to simply rename the files to .mp4?

I am looking for a LiveCD with linux on it. It needs to support the
plying of .m4a media files out-of-the-box (no modification to original
config). Hopefully this explains what I am looking for more clearly.

Is there a Linux LiveCD w/ out of box .mp4 support?

I don't know, but I read that there are several audio players
that support both the mp4 and the m4a extension, winamp 5.02
I think was one example.

But if one of the extensions do not work, try the other one, you might
have a player on the system that works with the other extension.

I may have found something with AmaroKLive. I have time over break,
we'll see how it goes.

I tried AmarokLive (latest distro). Very cool. But no support for mp4
or m4a. I have been told those extensions will be supported in the
next release.
