LISTNUM number display instable

I seem to have a problem with the ListNum field.
Creating the numbers works fine. But once I scroll down and up my document,
the numbering reverts to 1 where it should be just the next number in the
list. At least on screen. Working on the document can bring the correct
number display back (even without editing the acutal field).

Secondly the numbering format seems to be changing.
I have used the ListNum code in a macro. But when I use the macro, the
numbering sometimes appears as 1 2 3, then as 1) 2) 3), the as I. II. III. I
can't find out why it changes.

Possibly a but.
