Listing Of Start Menu Programs?

J

John Schneider

I'm about to take the plunge and move to Vista. Before I do, I'd like to
create a list of everything in my start menu. I realize it is a combination
of items in my personal menu and the "all users" menu. I'm looking for some
way to create a listing (preferably in a tree format) of all the programs I
currently have installed. I've been poking around the web and don't see any
tips for this.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You might try Belarc <http://www.belarc.com/>

It won't give you a list of what's on the start menu, but it will list ALL programs installed on the machine in HTML format which can be printed. Plus it's free!

Great idea! Haven't used Belarc in quite a while. In fact, I just checked,
and the last version I have is v6.0, from May 2003. I'll download the latest
and run it. I'd still like to find out if there is something out there to
get a graphical hierarchical representation of the start menu.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

I've never used it but you might be able to use a directory print utility such as:

JR Directory Printer
http://www.spadixbd.com/freetools/jdirprint.htm

And then print the contents of your start menu folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Start Menu

Browse to that folder with Win Explorer and copy it to a floppy/cd/whatever.
