List of Removable Malware

The following is a list of malware and optional fixes
that places an entry in the Start -> Control Panel ->
Add/Remove Programs list.

If any of these appear in scans, they should be
uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs then use the
scanners again to see if any traces still exist.

Thanks - that's a very useful list. I've regularly been browsing add/remove
programs on machines I touch, but I don't always know what I'm looking for.
I've been regularly removing some of the optional stuff you note, with no
complaints yet.

Thanks Bill & Engel

Its never usually as simple as just removing the malware
from Add/Remove screen but generally it should be the
starting point and does remove most of the junk then
using scanners can remove the remaining traces, as always
with this junk there is many variants that do not enter
themselves into Add/Remove like some Elite variants but
its still worth checking first to be sure then you can
kill them with scanners if needed.

Andy,
While the current version of SurfSidekick (SurfSidekick 3) is (correctly)
detected as spyware/adware, the software does not come with an uninstaller
and resists all efforts to remove it from my system.

I have run the beta1 version of Microsoft's anti-spyware software with my
system booted normally, in safe mode without networking available and in safe
mode with command prompt. In all cases Microsoft's anti-spyware software
finds the SurfSidekick software and claims to have successfully removed it.
Following the requested re-boot, another scan reveals SurfSidekick software
is still present on my system.

Do you have any suggestions

Andy will have useful cleaning instructions, I suspect. The suggestion I
have is the bureaucratic one--submit a Tools, Suspected Spyware report from
Microsoft Antispyware, if possible, please? This is the way to bring this
issue to the attention of the development team.

If this function results in a proxy message on a network where there is no
proxy involved, you are hitting a bug in beta1, for which we have no
workaround.
