Linux/Unix simulator

Where can I download a free Linux/Unix simulator that will run on Win2k? I
don't want the hassle of installing a full version of Linux. I do want its
functionality at the command prompt. This is mainly for practice and
learning Linux.

Thanks,
Brett

Have you done a search on the web? There are so many Linux distro's out
there it's impossible to keep track any more. There are even Linux
distro's that run entirely off a single floppy or a single CD (no GUI of
course), so if it's just the command line you want to mess with that
might be a viable option.

Even though you say you don't want to hassle with it, the best way to
learn Linux is going to be by running it for real. It isn't really a
hassle to set up a dual boot with Win2K and Linux at all, and most of
the Linux distro's I've treid are very easy to install and get going -
in some ways a lot easier than some Windows installs go. I suggest
looking into Red Hat or Mandrake for ease of install.

Try Knoppix. You can boot directly off the CD, and try it that way.
However it does run a GUI, but you can easily start a terminal session
to simulate the command line. Since it boots off the CD and only use a
RAMDISK changes you make will not be preserved over reboot.
