Links on some websites do not work

Generally websites will load, but on some sites, when you click on a link to
enter the site nothing happens. No error message, you can see the text
describing the 'button' but the page does not change.

The PC with the issues is running Windows 2000 and IE 6.0...SP1 and I've
installed last Tuesday's patches.

I logged in and compared its Internet Options to another PC where the
website's links do work. They appear to be the same. Both PCs have the
latest security patches and are running the same software. We use Dell
computers, both of the PCs mentioned are Dimension 4100s.

One of the websites where the problem occurs is: www.montalbanoinc.com

Any suggestions as to where I should look to make changes would be
appreciated. The user of the computer is annoyed that he cannot access some
websites.

He has not noticed any other strange behavior, just these 'broken links'.

these might work for you...........
try logoff/logon.
open new internet explorer window.
try delete internet temp files.
go to google and search for just the name (montalbanoinc)
and try clicking link in results.

Is it only happening when the link you click is trying to open a seconed
browser window? (as in your example link)

If so i have a fix for it. You need to re-register a series of dll's in the
right order. Unfortunatly I can't remember the dll's names, but i will keep
looking.

This problem (the second window problem) is rather common on my network and
seems to happen when certain service packs or hot fixes are applied. We
discovered the dll register solution somewhere on the net.

I just tried opening links on the affected computer on MSN.com and they
worked just fine, but you are correct they open in the same window.

I had not noticed that the problem webpage was opening in a second window
before.

Any information you can find to help would be appreciated.

*amazed* I just noticed that the user had installed a Pop-up Blocker. When
I disabled that the website works just fine. Thanks for the information it
helped open my eyes!

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:

DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.

4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:

http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window

You can also try this:

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (SFC /SCANNOW for Win2K or WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.
