links in powerpoint .ppt work in View Show, but not in pptview.exe

Jeez - I am totally flummoxed. I'm making a presentation in Powerpoint
(Office 2003 SBE), and I'm having problems getting all the links to work at
the same time.

During development, the links show up. When running from the main PPT 2003
application (F5 - or - \Slide Show\View Show), the links work - all of them.
But after "compiling" (\file\package for cd\copy to folder\ok), the run
version (play.bat, which runs pptview.exe) links do not even generate the
active link finger. Makes me raise a finger of my own.

help, please!

Can you give some details about how the links are created? Are they applied to
text boxes, or text, or autoshapes? Try slowly moving the mouse over the entire
object. Does it ever change to a link pointer? How many links do you have in
the presentation?

Sonia, thanks for checking in.

I first created a .pub file in Publisher. The main menu page was made as a
navigation bar (Watermark style "buttons"). There are 21 buttons - 3 across
and 7 down.

The .pub is saved as a web presentation. I then took the .htm files and
opened each in Powerpoint. I then copied each page as a slide into one
powerpoint presentation.

Yes, while fishing around the buttons while using pptview.exe, the arrow
changes to a link pointer on a very small area.

I don't quite understand the objects that are the buttons. There seem to be
several elements - text boxes (two?) and a graphic - to each link/button.
Each text box can be attached a link/action, and the text inside the box
itself can be linked/actioned.

Despite setting an action to each element on a button, the button does not
operate when running under pptview.exe.

Is there a way to show what the hyperlink/action is in the Status bar?

Is there some way to show all objects' outlines on a slide, or be able to
see the order of the objects? It seems that I can create text boxes only to
lose them if I lose focus on it before putting any text in it.

I guess that's enough questions for now.

Can you help me sort these things out?

If a button is just an outline and has no fill, the Viewer will have a problem
with the link. If you select the button and then apply a fill color, the link
will then work in the Viewer. If you don't want your button to have any color,
you can assign a color and then set it to 100% transparency (PowerPoint 2002 or
2003).

Sonia - I've posted a new question, "Text Box Outline - Easy to See" - would
you take a look?

Thanks for your help!
