linking to a PowerPoint presentation .pps file

I have tried several different methods of creating a PowerPoint presentation.
Now, when I create a .pps file and link to, it is not working correctly.
Within FrontPage, in Preview, it shows the hyperlink is to the .pps file.
When I click on it, the dialogue window comes up with the options to OPEN or
SAVE the .pps file. When I publish this page and test the same with Internet
Explorer, when I run the mouse over the hyperlink, it shows it is pointing to
my .pps file. However, when I click on the hyperlink, the dialogue window
comes up with the options to OPEN or SAVE the .ppt file (not the .pps file).
I have cleared history, cookies, temporary internet files, and offline
content and rebooted my PC, but it does not clear up the problem. When I
pull up the webpage in Firefox, it works just like it should!

If it works fien in FF and not in IE the problem must be related to IE.
Check on the IE security settings.

are you sure you're linking to the *correct* file? What is "pps" vs "ppt" -
is pps the kind-of "executable" powerpoint file? like *.mde is the
"executable" form of a Access database mdb?
What's the URL?

Carole:
If you are trying to create a PowerPoint presentation that visitors can view
without having to have PowerPoint on their PC, try "save As Web Page" - this
will create a .mht file. Import that into your web and create a link to it.

You really don't ever want a .mht file of a PPT
That is a single file of the whole PPT and will be huge, plus unsupported by many browsers

You want to save as html

The article you provided a link to was excellent! I now have my slide show
on the site. However, I have 2 issues: the pictures appear slower than I
like and the music is not playing. I have a single .wma file that should
play through the entire slide show and it does not need to loop.

I am using PowerPoint 2003 and FrontPage 2003. My url is

Thank you!
