Linking Text within Word Docs

Is there a way to link text within a document?

Example:

Document which will be used as a marketing tool for a business will be
submitted to many different companies. Each company's name will be
repeated multiple times within the document. Can one of the
references to the target company be updated, and all other references
within the document automatically update?

Hi,

All you need to do is to bookmark the company name (Insert bookmark), then use Insert|cross-reference to point to that bookmark
wherever you want the name repeated.

If you use a formfield to capture the company name and protect the document for forms, the formfield will have its own bookmark and
you can use that. All you need to do then is to set the formfield's properties to 'calculate on exit' and protect the document to
get the cross-references to update automatically..

Another possibility:
Create a custom document property named, e.g., “Company†(via File >
Properties > Custom tab). Set the value to the relevant company name. In the
document template, you could set the default value to “COMPANYâ€.

Each time you need the name, insert a DocProperty field. The field will then
show the current value of the property. You only need to change the value in
the Properties dialog box and update fields (Ctrl+A, F9) to change the values
in the entire document.

To create the first DocProperty field:
1. Press Ctrl+F9 to insert a set of field braces.

2. Between the braces, type:
DOCPROPERTY “Companyâ€

3. Press F9 to update the field (if this does not toggle field codes, press
Alt+F9).

To make it fast and easy to insert a “Company†field, you could create an
AutoText or an AutoCorrect entry (formatted text) that contains the field.
Instead of naming the AutoText/AutoCorrect entry “Companyâ€, you could, for
example, name it “xcomp†- then you will be able to type “company†as an
ordinary word without replacements or AutoComplete suggestions popping up.

When using fields, I recommend that you set up fields to always appear with
gray shading on the screen - this makes it easy to distinguish fields from
normal text (select Tools > Options > View tab > Field shading > Always). The
gray shading does not print.
