What's your default mail client set to (tools | internet options | programs)
and is that client software configured with a valid e-mail account? When you
click on Reply in a craigslist.com message, it launches a new window from
your default mail client software on that computer. If that's mis- or
unconfigured, you can't reply.

In the mail field there are - Hotmail, AOL, Outlook Express, and Microsoft
Outlook. I cannot add anything to it. I can only choose from those. I'm
using MSN which is hotmail, I chose Hotmail in the past for that field. Is
there somewhere else I should configure my msn hotmail?

I don't know; that isn't really a Windows XP question. Did this ever work?
If you go to any mailto: link on any website, do you get a new message
window? If you re-set the default mail client to something else, like
Outlook, and then apply/close, then go back in and re-set it to Hotmail,
does it work?

Anything beyond that, I don't know what to suggest. You might check with
Hotmail support.
