I am now currently upgrading from Access 97 to
03, but after upgrading and running the linked table
manager no tables are listed.

What is going on here?

I am worried about using that solution as I might lose
Access 97, which I am not quite ready to do without.

Is this a valid worry?

Search Google for "multiple Access versions".

I don't put multiple versions on the same machine but others have reported
here that they have Access 97, 2000, 2002, 2003 installed in different
directories without any problem.

There is a procedure to stop earlier Access versions re-registering as the
"default" Access version on the PC. The above search should give you a few
hits. There are also utilities that tries to open databases with the Access
version that was used to create the database but I can't recall the name(s).
