Linked Excel field - Problem - HELP

I have an Excel spreadsheet with two fields I am ahving a problem with and
RATE is formatted as General and BASIS is Text.

RATE BASIS
50 0 %REV

Once linked in Access, both field dispays #num!

Please help. BIG Project!
