I am a reaserch student and I have to use EndNote to type my reference. However, I don't know why I cannot link the Microsoft Word and EndNote together, I mean as usual, we can open the Word and Endnote together when you clikc the 'Cite while you write'. Unfortunately, that tool bar doesn't work in my laptop. Does anyone can suggest what I can do?

I assume you aren't seeing the endnote toolbar or menu (under Tools) at all?

"Cite while you write" is an add-in that has to be installed in the Word
start-up folder. If you installed Endnote after Word, it should have been
put there automatically. However, if you search Endnote Help, you should
find topics about which word processors are supported, and how to manually
install the add-in without reinstalling any program (you just move around
some files, it's very easy, though you may need the original CD).

The EN add-in might be linked to instability in Word 2003, though.

Hmm...I cannot do that in Microsoft Word. I mean I cannot find the add-in tool bar in EndNote. By the way, I delete my previous account in my laptop and set up a new one. I don't know whether that is the main cause of hte problem.

Sorry, there might not be a help topic in Endnote about this. You will need
the CD for this. On my EN 5 cd, there is a file called "manual installation
of CWYW" or something like that, which gives directions. There are a couple
files that you need to place in Word's Startup folder. My Help also says it
is possible to run just a custom install of CWYW from the CD, which would
place the files in the right place for you. I do suggest you read Help's
About Cite While You Write, which might help you understand the problem.

If you don't have access to the CD, but do have access to a computer when EN
works properly in the SAME VERSIONS of EN and Word, you might just be able
to copy the files in the Word Startup folder on that computer, and put them
in the same location on your computer.

Exact directions will depend on version of Word, operating system, and
Endnote, so I'm afraid I can't tell you exactly what files to put where.
Mine are called Endnote5 CWYW and Endnote5 CWYW commands, and proper
installation puts them in the Office folder/Office/Startup folder.

Compatibility with Word 2003 is what I'd like to know about. Will EndNote 7 add-in function?

Not that many people here are using Endnote....Check the Endnote site
(endnote.com), read the reviews, download the demo version and test it, and
even try emailing via the Endnote support page. Or follow support links to a
searchable archive of the Endnote listserv.
