Hello!

I'd like to link my presentation with an excel file. I
created an action button and then browsed the file via
Action Settings/Run program. When running the button,
Powerpoint shows a message: "Powerpoint couldn't locate or
start "abc.xls" "
What can I do?

Thanks for your help,
Maria

Hi, Maria,

Run program will start a program -- but not open a file
within that program.

To open your file, in the Action Settings dialog box,
select Hyperlink To ... then in the dropdown list under
Hyperlink To, select Other File, and browse from there to
select your Excel file to open.

Hi, Maria,

Actually, a Run Program action setting to an XLS will do pretty much the same
thing as doubleclicking the XLS from Windows Explorer. It'll launch the file.

BUT ...

Hyperlinking as you describe is a better bet just the same. A Run Program
action makes PPT toss an ugly warning message in your face when you click the
action button. A hyperlink to the same XLS file just opens, like you'd expect
it to.

So if your mom didn't bug you enough about picking up your socks and not
talking to strangers and not using the toilet in bus stations when you were a
kid, Run Program is just the thing to fill in the gaps. Otherwise, your way's
best. ;-)

Thanks a lot ...
Maria
