I always enter holidays etc. as "out of office" in my calendar, but usually
forget to set the Out of Office Assistant before I go.

What I'd like to be able to do is link the Out of Office assistant to my
calendar so that I don't have to remember! Is this possible?

Although I've a large number of years programming experience I'm new to the
whole concept of Outlook and Office macros. Any further clues would be
useful ;)

Are there any examples I can use as inspiration? - or even blantantly rip off?

Chris.
