Link in email not working

When I click on a link in an Outlook 2003 email, it opens the default browser
(IE8 or Firefox) at the home page and not where the link should direct it. My
OS is Vista home Premium 32.

Reset the defaults in IE (Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset), reset IE as
the default browser in Windows. See if it works now. If so, then reset
Firefox as the default browser.

I have already set IE as my default and still the OL link won't go all the
way through to the correct page, only as far as the home page. IE or
Firefox,
makes no difference. It's as if in a batch file the %1 is missing, if you
know what I mean.

I do know what you mean. Open regedit and look.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open\command and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open\ddeexec control the operation of IE when
selecting URLs in mail. You should see

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

in the Default key for the first and

"file://%1",,-1,,,,,

as the Default key for the second, if you're using IE as the browser.
