Link from subsite linkbar to main site linkbar only works once

I set up a sub site linkbar. I then added a new link in the subsite linkbar
so that i could return to the main site linkbar. I am still in the design
stage (and an amateur at that), so I am doing the testing in the Design Mode.
When I open Frontpage and go to the subsite directly, I can get the link to
work. It will only work that once. If I link from the main site to the
subsite, the link back to the main site does not work, even if it is the
first time. Both the main site and subsite linkbars are located in shared
borders. This has really got me stumped. Any help will be much appreciated.

You must make the links between root/sub webs absolute full URLs (not nav bar links)
