link data from access to excel

I linked a table from excel into access. I should be able to add, delete
records from access and have them link to excel but it does not let me add
new records. I can however add new records from excel and update access. It
is suppose to let me go from access, add new records and show up in excel.
Any suggestions?

It works if you were able to use Office 2000 or 2002, but not in later
versions.
However even then if you update data in Excel via Access I found I lost RTF
formatting....
