My.
It might be easier for you to simply copy the existing graph, right-click
and choose Open, and then change the data.
If you absolutely must recreate it, then you would do the following:
1. Use the chart slide layout or use Insert/Chart and double-click to open
it and get to the dummy chart and data. It should be a 3-D column chart.
2. Right-click in the upper right-hand corner of the chart and choose Chart
Type. Select the first option -- the clustered column -- and click OK. (You
do not want the 3D version.)
3. On the data sheet, select the North row and Ctrl+X to cut them.
4. Right-click the 2nd data series (the set of columns on the right --
they're dark blue here) on the chart and choose Format/Data Series. Go to
the Axis tab and click the Secondary radio button.
5. Right-click the blue columns again and choose Chart Type. Select Line in
the chart type list on the left, and in the subtype, choose one of the top 6
boxes. (In other words, you don't want a 3D line.) Click OK.
6. You obviously have done some work on this, because you managed to get
your X axis at the top of your graph. Since you haven't mentioned what
you've done, I'll just say to right-click on your X-axis, choose Format
Axis, and on the first tab, select Tick Mark Labels High. (I assume you know
how to make the X axis labeled by year, as you said you have year labels,
they're just in the wrong place.)
7. To change the column width, right-click the remaining column and choose
Format Data Series. Go to the Options tab and make the gap width smaller.
