man ive been trying to fix this for days. Im really fed up at this point and
everywhere i go no one seems to be of help. Im getting this error and it is
effecting my connetion . I can barely keep a stable connetion on my second
pc. i have it hooked to 2 nic's . I get this error message and when i hit
the repair button on the nic that gives me this message it says unable to
renew ip address. The only thing i noticed that was wierd is my main network
card reads as netgear fa311 network adapter #2 . I know for a fact thats not
what the 2 wasnt there until i ran this winsockfix program. now everytime i
disconnect the cable and connect it to the other nic and back it seems to
create another LAN connetion. For example i remove the cable from nic 1 to 2.
It moves from LAN 1 and displays LAN 2. Move it back and Lan 2 stays there
but now it displays LAN 3. This goes on forever. Guys im desperate for help
and really need some advice on what to do. I think its something screwed up
with the nic though but dont know how to correct it on my pc. Thank you
anyone for any help

How about some details what you're trying to do? Why are you moving the cable
from nic 1 to nic 2? What is on the other end of the cable? Why did you run
WinsockFix in the first place?

To help with this, simply Disable the currently operating nic, switch
the cable, Enable the other nic. Any nic that is enabled and has no
connectivity due to being unconnected will throw up the message unless
you uncheck the notification box in the nic properties "notify me when
this connection has limited or no connectivity".

Now, why do you run two nics?

Okay what im trying to do is share my connection with my other pc. I have 2
nic's setup so one pc could be connected to the net. And i can use my second
pc to connect to the net using the first with internet connection sharing.
The only reason i ran the winsock fix was because i was unable to access the
internet a week ago. I ran the netsh command to reset the network stack still
nothing so then i ran a winsock fix to fix my connection troubles. This didnt
help so i just let it be for the day and eventually when i woke up the next
money it was working again. But when i connected my other pc to the
secondary nic again that day it started displaying the limited or no
connectivity message for the first time. The only thing i can pinpoint this
too would be that fix i ran because ever since that i can not connect through
my second pc to use the internet on the first. I also do some transfer of
files through the pc as well. I have error messages through the event viewer
would that help identify and stop the problem im having if i posted those
messages?? Ive tried that quaoar it seems as if dHCP just wont assign a ip
address to my second pc. If theres any other info anyone else needs let me
know because i really wanna get this problem solved. Thank you u 2 for your
replys.

What does the internet service Ethernet connect to? A broadband modem? Or a
NAT router?

If you have two computers, and are getting internet service to the first thru
Ethernet (is this broadband?), the absolute best solution would be for you to
get a NAT router (if necessary), and connect both computers directly to the
router. That's a lot easier to setup, it's easier to secure, and it doesn't
require both computers to be online and on at the same time when you want to use
the second.

If getting a NAT router is not a solution for you, then I'd suggest that you
rerun the network setup wizard, selecting "... The other computers on my network
connect to the Internet through this computer."

Or you could provide ipconfig information for each computer, and we can diagnose
what has to be done.
Start - Run - "cmd" - Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window. Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!, open
file c:\ipconfig.txt, copy and paste entire contents into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name, version, and SP level) with each ipconfig
listing.

I'm guessing (but I need you to verify for me) that you meant to say that your
first nic (the NETGEAR FA311 above) connects to the net thru the cable modem,
and the second nic (the SMC USB to Ethernet) connects to the second computer?

The Netsh and Winsockxxxxx programs aren't magic - they are intended to fix a
specific symptom - connectivity problems caused by Winsock/LSP corruption.
Maybe your problem is something else.

Which computer did you observe the loss of internet service on? What changes
did you make just before you lost connectivity?

If the SMC USB to Ethernet connection is what you're sharing the service thru,
it would appear that the problem is with ICS, or with the DHCP server in ICS.

From what I can tell, Family-Computer should be fine for internet service.
Please verify that for us, to start.

Next, check (Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services) Internet
Connection Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing Service (if RTM or SP1), or
Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing Service (if SP2), and see if it's
Started.
