Hi,
I have a PC with Win XP Pro.

Here's what I have on my USB ports :
Inkjet colour printer
Laser monochrome printer
a DVD burner and
an external hard drive.

Each is on its own separate USB port.
I still have a few spare ports ...
I can plug in my USB memory stick and it shows up as a removeable disc, (H:)

I then plug in my Olympus µ camera.
The PC makes the bling-blong sound as if it has detected a new device but
the cmaera does not show up in the drive list in Explorer.

This used to work perfectly before I added the DVD burner and the external
drive.
(Possible source of conflict but no proof as yet.)

I try the same camera on another PC and it shows up immediately as a
removeable drive (E:).

How do I get to see my camera as a drive ?
Any ideas ?

TIA

Andy

Two ideas
1. The USB ports on your computer only have a limited amount of power and it
seems that your camera goes over this limit. You could buy a "powered" USB
hub which gets its power from the wall outlet, and plug a few of the
peripheral's into this.
Something like this.

2. If you have tweakui installed check the settings to make sure that the
drive in ? is NOT marked do not show. This has caught many people off guard
myself included.

I've discovered what is actually happening.

I have a persistent network drive connection to a remote folder on a server.
So that my mapped drive G: is really \\Server1\accounts
That works OK.

Now, when I plug in the camera, isead of Windows adding a new removeable
drive with a new letter, H: for example, it attributes the G: drive to the
camera even if it is already affected to the Accounts folder.

In the My Computer root, I click on G: and instead of opening the accounts
folder it opens the camera drive.

Weird.
Isn't it?

Not wierd at all, it is designed automatic drive lettering behavior.
DON'T manually assign network drive letters in the LOCAL area. Automatic
assigns network drive letters starting at Z and working down. LOCAL
assignment starts at A and works up.
