I was told that you can load XP Pro on 2 home computers,
is this true?
.

Hello!
Under the Windows XP End-User License Agreement (EULA),
you may install one licensed copy of Windows XP on one
computer. If you need to install Windows XP on more than
one computer that you own, you may qualify to purchase up
to three (3) discounted additional licenses in one of the
following ways.

Yes, but you can't activate both with the same cd key. The limitations are
stated on the outside of the box and the setup EULA states the license is
for one computer and if you install on a second computer. You will have 30
days to purchase another license to activate on the additional computer.

If you're referring to Windows XP, no.
You will need one copy of XP for each machine that you want to run Windows
on.

If you're referring to Office XP, yes.
You may install Office XP on one (1) desktop and one (1) laptop.

No. You were told wrong. The rule is quite clear. It's one copy
(or one license) for each computer.

There's nothing new here. This is exactly the same rule that's
been in effect on every version of Windows. The only thing new
with XP is that there's now an enforcement mechanism.

Big Lie!

It depends on where you live. If you live in the USA (excluding Washington
State) then yes you can as long as its for personal use. If you live outside
the USA the you have to abide by the local laws about copyright and personal
use. Its in the EULA, it says clearly at the bottom(Long after the point
that most people read) that the EULA is governed by the laws of the state of
Washington. Read it. For those that will undoubtedly disagree, please show
one court case or police report that has cited or convicted anyone of having
a Microsoft product on more than one personal computer.
