Lexmark Z55 printer setup

Iaquired a lexmark, trying to install into a dell
4400dimensions computer, is this compatible? I get a
screen that says communication problem, please advise
 
How are you trying to connect it to the PC?

Did you install the software before connecting the printer to the PC?

Did you download XP drivers from the Lexmark website or are you trying to
use Win9x drivers (which will NOT work on XP)?
