Lexmark 4039 10 Plus or HP LaserJet 6MP?

I'm getting ready to purchase my first laser printer for my home. It is for
bulk and b&w printing. I have a nice Canon ink jet for color use. I'm
planning to pickup a used HP 6MP or Lexmark 4039 10 Plus and can't decide
which would be better. I've found several that appear to be really close as
far as overall condition, page count, etc.The features seem pretty close
with the exception that the Lexmark has a network card and the HP doesn't.
Anyone have any positive or negative experiences or praise or condemnation
to offer either of these models that may impact my buying decision? Thanks
for any info anyone can provide.

Sincerely,
- Byron Followell

Personally I prefer the HP line of laser printers, but I do have about 10
toner cartridges for the 4039 if you go that way. Refills by Rhinotek. $10
each plus shipping costs.

Take neither for a couple of $100 more you can get better used
printers than these two. I'm not knocking Lexmark or HP but you would
be better of with a later model. I have seen Lexmark printers with
over a million pages printed but then again Lexmarks are basically
designed for high volume printing. My Optra R+ duty cycle is 35,000
per month. The cartridge does 14,000 pages So choose your laser by the
amount you will print. Check the duty cycles on the printers .Last if
you buy either be prepared to spend another $100 to have it tuned up.
Plus toner.

Personally I'd look for a lexmark

I have a Lexmark 4039 10 Plus, this printer rocks, but if you want to
print higher res graphics get the HP 6MP. A client of mine has
the 6MP and it is better for graphics then mine. I also just bought a
Optra S 1255 with NIC for $110 CAD, I should have it monday unless Fedex
delays shipping it, I will let you know how well the print quality is.

Unless you are getting the 4039 or the HP 6MP for under $75 CAD I would
look a little more. Stay away from any thing from HP that ends in an L,
they are by far the crappest printers every made.

Sounds like you work for Lexmark. HP has by far the best laser printers on
the market. Cost per print is by far less than Lexmark. Lexmark won't let
you buy refill toner cartridges which will really increase your recurring
cost. Being in the laser repair business for 12 years, I recommend you go
with HP...You won't be sorry. Pete

I don't work for them but to say cost per print is less well my Optra
R+ just replaced the cartridge at $140 Coverage at 5% Yield 14,400
The cheapest I've seen for a HP 6MP is $50 Yield 4000 pages Coverage
5%
