Letterhead with importet object

In my template in Word, the letterhead is an importet object. I did this
because I have several templates based on one letterhead, and if the
letterhead needs to be changed, i don't want to change all the templates. My
problem is that when i open a doc based on the template, I want to end the
link to the document that is imported. Anyone knows how to do this?

In each template that imports the object, you need a macro named AutoNew. In
that macro, you need to locate the correct link (field) and execute its
Unlink method, which changes the object from linked to embedded.

I can't be any more explicit than that until you supply more details:

- In the templates, where is the link? It's most likely to be in the
first-page header of Section 1 if that section is set to Different First
Page -- but is it there or somewhere else?

- Is the link inside a table or textbox?

- What kind of field is the link? Right-click the object in any of these
documents and click Toggle Field Codes. Does the field code start with
INCLUDEPICTURE or with something else?

You should also be aware that changing the "letterhead" source will affect
only new documents based on the templates that import it. Existing documents
will not be updated.

Like you, I want the new letterhead document (based on a template) to
contain the recent information, but not as a link. I want a document I save
to look the same even if the letterhead information changes because I want
to be able to look up something on my computer and see the same thing I
would get with a printed file (or close).

The way I do it is as Jay suggests, with an AutoNew macro. I use that macro
to actually import the letterhead parts from a primary letterhead template.
Another method would be to have those parts be AutoText in a global template
inserted into my letterhead using an AutoText field and have the AutoNew
macro unlink the fields when a new document is created.
