letter to norton

Hi,
I have Norton SystemWorks and Norton Personal Firewall, both 2006.
Both were running! and I got infected with atmclk.exe and dcomcfg.exe.
Norton Antivirus got in an infinite loop, and I had to shut down the
computer by hand (press the shutdown button with hand) becuz alt+ctrl+dlt
was useless, and the screen was froze.
so I restarted the computer, and it was still infected. I run Norton
Antivirus, and it could not detect the infection! I tried to open Internet
explorer to look for help online, then norton antivirus said that my
homepage is getting changed by another program, and it also got in an
infinite loop and I could not access internet explorer. so now my goal was
to shut down Norton becuz it is clearly useless and then open internet
explorer! guess what? I could not find shut down button for Norton which is
supposed to protect my computer in the first place, and I spent $95 to buy
it..
Thx God I downloaded FireFox some month ago, and I opened it, and I was able
to access the internet! and I downloaded a FREE malware remover, and with
that free software, it detected the infection and removed it!!!

(1) even if norton famous, u guys shud still be working for consumers, not
thinking of urselves as a monopoloy, and the last you care for is customers!
come on, a free software I downloaded online was more useful to me than
norton, a $95 cost per year!!
(2) why there is no easy way to find shut down button for my norton
installed software?? r u guys getting ideas from malaware that closing ur
software is a bad idea?? Im starting wondering if norton is really malaware
remover..
(3) plz dont waste ur time in replying to me.. INSTEAD USE UR TIME TO FIX UR
SOFTWARE and get it at least to work in a respectable manner.

Next time before you send a letter to Norton, or anyone you want to read it,
use a spell and grammar checker.
It will make the difference between discarded quickly because it is hard to
read or kept for serious consideration.

Symantec has its own web form to report problems. They respond in 2 to
3 business days. I've used it many times and they have responded to
each, but then I prepared a decent report regarding the environment,
setup (for the test to duplicate the problem), and described the problem
in detail. Ranting pretty much gets the attention that it deserves:
auto-filed into the wastebasket.

Symantec also has a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If you don't like
their product within 30 days of purchase (some are 60 days), call them
to get a ticket number so you can return it for a refund. In fact, when
I called to get a refund on SystemWorks, they didn't even want me to
bother to send them back the product. They simply sent me a check
whereupon I voluntarily destroyed the CD and tossed the package into the
trash. Name me another software company that does that. Not even
Microsoft has that (or I just haven't ever heard of it).

Go read http://snipurl.com/SYM_Satisfaction.

So rather than rant or sent an immaturely composed poison letter, just
call them or use their web form for tech assistance. I'm not
prosyletzing Symantec products and have, in fact, eliminated all of
their products from my hosts through attrition by finding better or
preferred non-Symantec solutions. But I have yet to deal with any other
company that has a *satisfaction* guarantee, and while I was prepared
for a battle with a technical report regarding my problems, they simply
asked why I didn't like their product and sent me a refund without a
hassle.

Don't think Peter Norton got your letter.
Recommend an AV and a spyware/malware detector separately. A doall package
can't do it all, all the time, reliably for all.
A little research shows that current McAfee and Panda had similar problems
with atmclk.exe
