Letter Misalignment in PowerPoint Slide Show

I'm using PP 2003 to create announcement and song lyric slides for my church
on a Dell Inspiron 8200 notebook. The Dell is running Windows XP Pro. A
phenomenon that I'm experiencing is that sometimes certain letters in the
text portion of slides will be shifted over from their original positions
such that they are superimposed over an adjoining letter. This only happens
when the show is being viewed in Slide Show mode. The text will appear
correct when working with the slides in Normal View mode. I have tried
deleting and retyping the same text, but that doesn't correct the problem
most of the time. Today I even reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled
Windows and Office, but the problem still persists. Could this be a function
of working with a notebook PC or a need for more memory? It currently has 640
MB of RAM. Help!

I have the same problem with PowerPoint sometimes. Such a pain :( I end up
inserting a new slide, copying my text from the original slide, pasting it
into a notepad file (Start | Accessories | Notepad) and then copying and
pasting it back into the new slide. This seems to work for me 90% of the
time. Hope it works for you.

I would guess one of two things.

If it is always the same font, then it may be a corrupt font file. I seem
to remember that there are some issues with Arial black font along these
lines, so try changing the font and see if it resolves.

Secondly, it may be a video card issue. Go to the manufacturers website and
look for upgrades to the video card driver that shipped with the computer.
You want the newest driver for you video card installed. While on the
web, also update your DirectX, Windows, Office and printer drivers (this may
take some time, so do not start it Saturday night). If you've done all this
and the issue still pops up, try setting your video acceleration down a
notch or two or three. Sometimes the video acceleration confuses
PowerPoint's rendering engine.

Post back if you need additional help with any of these steps or the issue
does not resolve.
