I'm confused...Everything I see says that LDAP is the
default protocol used by AD...several technotes talk
about it being a service...I do not see it on my services
list...However port 389 3268 are being used.

Technotes also reference that LDAP would be listed under
exchange server protocols...(Exchange 2000 Admin)but it
is not...(I do see port 389 and 3268 listed under the
exchnage 2000 server admin (server name - propertie)
under Directory Services...but I cannot change it...is is
greyed out...

Is LDAP by default installed with W2k or Exchange
2000...or is this another product that must be purchased.

Setting up Entourage for MAC communication to Exchange
2000...LDAP must be enabled.

When you setup an active Directory domain, then all servers configured
as Domain Controllers, automatically become LDAP servers and begin
listening on Port 389. Exchange 2000/2003 Are not LDAP servers, they
are 100% percent reliant on DCs/GCs for services.

Mote,

In addition port 3268 is used by the Global Catalog Servers.....
