LCD monitors: Samsung SyncMaster 931BF is not good as Philips Brilliance 200P4VB/74.

Hello,

I recently bought a Samsung SyncMaster 931BF LCD TFT monitor, and not
too impressed with the colors and brightness compared to my office's
Philips Brilliance 200P4VB/74 flat panel display (TFT). I am not sure
why. I did research to find a decent LCD monitor, but the colors weren't
impressive. I also did install the monitor driver in Windows XP Pro.
SP2, ran configurations to tune my colors, brightness, etc. with both
the monitor's buttons and software.

I assume it is because I still use VGA connections because of my old
2-port Belkin KVM switch to share two computers with the monitor and
PS/2 mouse. I'd go upgrade to KVM with USB and DVI, but that is
expensive due to new cables, new mouse, etc. Also, I read that this VGA
setup shouldn't be a problem with newer LCD monitors. Is that true or
false? Maybe it is the lighting in my room (even when blinds are closed
in my room and in the dark, especially at night), but workplace's
ceiling lights (I am in a cubicle with fluorescent lights that point
mostly up) are bright and sometimes window blinds are opened (no
sunlights into my screens).

I also compared the monitor specifications (see below), and my Samsung
LCD monitor should be better due to brightness, contrast, viewing angle,
response time, etc.

Samsung SyncMaster 931BF LCD TFT monitor (home)
19" -- 1280 x 1024
60 hz - 300 cd/m2
Pixel Pitch: 0.294 mm
Brightness(Typ.): 300 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio: 700:1 (typical) and 2,000:1 (dynamic)
Viewing Angle(H/V): 160?/160? (CR>5)
Response Time(ms): 2
DVI / VGA (currently using)
16.2 million colors

Philips Brilliance 200P4VB/74 flat panel display (TFT) [office]
20.1" -- 1600 x 1200
60 Hz - 250 cd/m2
Pixel Pitch: 0.255 mm
400:1
Viewing angle: C/R>=10 176 Horizontal and C/R>=10 176 Vertical
16 ms
0.255 mm
DVI (currently using) and VGA (HD-15)
16.7 million colors

So, is my problem related to VGA setup or something else? I doubt the
monitor is defective since it seems to work. Thank you in advance. :)
