Layout Font Size Changes

I created a slide master and title master in my PowerPoint 2003 template.
When I insert a new slide I get the slide master layout. Because I'm using
this template for web-based training storyboards, I need a column format with
text on the left and an image on the right. So I click this layout. The
layout is okay, but for some strange reason the default font size for the
slide master layout is 12 and the default font size for the column layout is
10. What's with that and how can I fix it? Note: I have all the text in the
slide master body placeholder set to font size 12.

PowerPoint automatically defaults to the smaller size
when you use a format other than just text. There may be
a work around -- I'm curious to see if someone else in
this newsgroup can tell us about it.

As Sandy explained, PPT defaults to a smaller font size when you use a slide
layout that's got anything more than just one text placeholder on it.

You could create an additional slide master with a larger font size and
apply this master to those slides that use the 2-column text (or other)
layout.

How do I apply the additional slide master to a different layout? - Thanks

Go to View/Masters/Slide Master. Right-click your existing master and select
Copy. Then right-click again and select Paste. Right-click once again and
choose Rename. Name your new master something like "large text" so you'll be
able to easily distinguish it from your existing master.

Now select the slide master in that set of masters (a set = title slide
master + slide master itself) you just pasted. Change the font size on the
placeholder as necessary.

Go back to View/Normal and on the menu bar, go to Format/Slide Design so
that the pane with the design templates shows. Then select in the slide
thumbnail pane (on the left) the slides you want to apply this master to.
Back in the Slide Design pane on the right, click your new slide master on
the right-hand edge of its thumbnail and choose "apply to selected slides."

I have a template that talks about color schemes and multiple masters. It
doesn't cover exactly what you're after, but it may help you visualize where
to click to add a master and where to click to apply the master, etc.

Thank you Echo S for your suggestion. Unfortunately in PowerPoint 2003 - at
least from what I can tell, right-clicking on the master does not give me a
Copy option. I did recreate a new master from scratch and renamed it. Then I
applied it to the pages in the PowerPoint document. The problem still exists
because this is what I need to do to add a new page in the document:

Insert > New Slide. This always uses the default. When I try to apply the
column layout (text on the left and image on the right). It also uses the
default. I have to apply the new master from the Design pane and then switch
to the Layout pane to apply the style. This is more cumbersome than what I
was doing originally, which was to apply the layout and then click the text
pane and change the font size.

The other choice is to find the page layout in the document and do an Edit >
Duplicate. But that takes too much time.

I don't understand why MS changes the font size when switching the layout
from one large box to columns. I don't know if there is a true solution. But
thank you for your time.

If anyone from Microsoft is monitoring these posts I hope they will consider
allowing folks to edit the individual layouts, especially if Microsoft is
going to make changes to elements in them that we cannot control.

Sincerely,

Odd. Right-click copy seems to work here, but perhaps I missed a step in the
instrux I gave.
The problem still exists
because this is what I need to do to add a new page in the document:

Ah, yes. It didn't click for me that that's actually what you need.

If you add the new master to a slide and then add a new slide after that
one, it will take on the master of the previous slide.

Oh, man. What a booger of a bunch of words *that* was! Lemme try to explain
this way. You have some slides in this order:

1. design 1
2. design 1
3. design 2
4. design 3

If you add a slide between slides 3 and 4, that slide will by default take
on design template 2. If you add a slide after slide 4, by default it will
take on design template 3.

If you add a slide between slides 1 and 2 (or after slide 2), it will by
default take on design template 1.

Better?

Unfortunately, I don't think there's an elegant solution for you, either.
Wish I had a better answer for you!
If anyone from Microsoft is monitoring these posts I hope they will consider

I'd agree with that.
