I am attempting to run a task that would open a .pps file to launch a
powerpoint show, but what I find happens is that Powerpoint itself is
launched with the "show" I want to run in the window, but not running. Does
someone know some way to launch a Powerpoint show completely automatically? I
am running PP 2003 on an XP sp2 machine.
Thanks for your help!

That's where you lost me, either it's running the presentation or it's not.
Have no idea what you mean by "in the window but not running".

This is probably because the default program to open .pps file on your
machine is PowerPoint, now PowerPoint show player. You can change it
back via Tools->Folder Options -> File Types->.PPS-> Advanced Button,
then set "Show" as the default action.

If this cannot solve your problem, please let me know.

Have you ever happened to deal with a .pps file?

A .pps file is just a PowerPoint Show file, that is, a normal
presentation file which will open up in full screen mode as soon as you
double-click it. In this way, you don't have the possibility to modify
it or to discover the tricks which lie behind. Apparently.

Yes, because if you want to modify and edit a .pps file, you can do the
following:

a) Right-click in the file icon holding down the shift key (if you have
Windows Millennium you will not need to hold it down).

b) Choose "Open with..." from the context menu

c) Select "PowerPoint" from the "Open With" dialog box

Otherwise, you can also

a) right-click on the file icon

b) choose "Rename"

c) replace ".pps" with ".ppt".

Open the show in PPT and check Slide Show, Settings. It sounds as though you
don't have it set to run in full screen or kiosk mode. Change to one of those,
save again and see if it works better for you.
