Is there a command or option to auto align the html in vs 2005 AND more
importantly can anyone suggest a good pocket reference (or other) to help
point out these features?

When viewing the .aspx page in source mode, press Ctrl+K, D

Hope this is what you are looking for.

Unfortunately I am not aware of any books that teach these type of IDE
stuff. Perhaps you may try digging the MSDN.
