I have a 2 month old HP Pavillion desktop. I am using Vista Home Premium with
an external hard drive attached to it over USB. I have completed a full file
system backup through the Vista Back up your PC section in the control panel.
This was done sucessfully. I scheduled an automatic incremental backup to be
saved weekly to the same external hard drive that the first full backup is
on. The mediaID.bin has been created and is located on the root of the
external drive. Unfortunately after the first full backup is created, the
incremental backups all have failed with the error "that the latest backup
set cannot be found- 0X8100000A". I can verify that the original backup is in
fact there and I can see the incremental backup has also been created, but
the error message still pops up. The option to "Try Again" is available in
the backup has failed error message. When I select that, the incremental
backup kicks on and starts backing up to the external drive and completes
successfully, but seems to create an additional full backup again, not an
incrementla one. It seems as though it's just not working in auto mode. I
have also tried different external hard drives without any success. I have
tried removing my shadow copies in the restore center as directed by the tech
support guy from HP, but no luck. I am at the point where I have restored the
PC from the backup partition once, and HP tech support wants me to do it
again. Since it didn't solve the problem originally, I don't want to do it
again as it's a pain getting everything back to the way I want it. If anyone
has any ideas I would greatly appreciate some advice as I think the support
HP is giving me is very lackluster to this point.
Thanks!
