Xp Pro crashed on my girlfriend, All the text that you
would type would become ascii trash or windings. I got
help through kellies corner and it turned out to be a
corrupt registry. I followed the steps and got loaded
but she had system restore turned off so I couldnt go
back to a previous registry.
Now I reformated the drive using xp pro cd and when it
installs
it says cannont copy file to source it actually stops at
browserui.dll but if u try to skip it does it on other
files. The cd I used had a few scratches but I use 3-4
different cd's over and over and have tried using NTFS
and FAT32 and it does the same thing. I tried installing
off of her CD and CDRW and neither drive worked.

Can anyone give me some pointers.

Here is what I have tried.
Unplugging everything but the keyboard, mouse and video,
did nothing.

Multiple CD's/ CD drives

Different file systems NTFS and FAT32

If anyone knows anything please let me know
Thanks

I have found when installing XP, if it stalls saying it cannot locate or
read a file on CD when installing, it is usually bad RAM. This may also
explain the other symptoms you have been getting.

This could be it, but the RAM doesn't necessarily have to be bad, just
disagreeable to Windows - sometimes with more than one module installed it
chokes occasionally. Manufactureres clone the operating system onto a drive
so they wouldn't experience this problem. However, if you're under warantee
I'd get it fixed by Gateway since if you start fiddling around inside the
computer you'll void the warantee.
