Last Modified date is not changing on production pages

When editing pages in FP 2000 the Last Modified date in the bottom shared
border correctly reflects the date of change i.e. today. After publishing
the pages to the production web site the Last Modified date is not correct,
in my case all the pages say the last modified date is February 3, 2006. Am
I missing something here?

Select the date and right click for properties
- change the options to Last automatically updated
