LaserJet 4MV front door problem

N

Nunzio

I have an HP LaserJet 4MV printer with a letter tray and large
capacity lower cassette installed.

I removed the toner cartridge to clear a paper jam (as it turns out,
the jam was not in this area). When I re-installed the cartridge, I
discovered that the front door of the printer would no longer latch.
The door seems to travel far enough, but will not latch even if I
press it towards the printer. The handles on the cartridge are in the
up position, and there are no visible obstacles. If I remove the
cartridge, the door latches fine. I don't have a spare cartridge to
try, and I'd hate to buy one if it's not going to fix the problem.

Has anyone run into this problem before? Any ideas? Thanks!

Check that the cartridge drum shutter actuating lever has not broken off. This
is a thin piece of plastic that sticks out from the cartridge on the right hand
side as you insert it into the printer, they are very easy to break off. If it
is there it will be obvious.
