LaserJet 2300 - Default Print Settings printing to wrong tray

F

freeman642

We have a network set up configuration with the Default settings to
print to Tray to, whenever some of the PC's print the red light flashes
and it says there is no paper in tray 1 when we asked it to print to
Tray 2. Very strange behaviour and it only happens on a few machines.
Hve deleted and added the network printer again, but no joy.

If you push the green tick on the front of the printer twice it prints
fine to tray 2, but why doesnt it print to tray 2 first time. The
default print preferences are not transferred to the pc anyway. Very
strange problem. Never had it with HP printers before.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks John

I have seen this with lots of printers (HP and other), it has never been a
printer hardware issue.
On every occasion it has been the settings in the individual PC's that use the
printer. Each one has to have the defaults set correctly.
Firstly of course the printer itself must have each tray set up for the paper
it contains, it seems this is OK in your case since some PC's don't have a
problem.
Secondly each PC must have the defaults set in the driver so that each tray in
the driver matches the settings in the printer, with WinXP and some printers
you have to do this in two places. Control Panel/Printers right click on
Properties and examine each tab to ensure all of the options are set to match
the printer. Then Control Panel/Printers right click on Preferences and do the
same thing.
Lastly make sure the application is set correctly for the tray preferences.
