Large LCD with poor eyesight problem

My 21" Sony CRT is dying. I have poor eyesight and need a screen of
about this size. I now run it at 1024/768 and I use "large fonts".
This works for me, but I couldn't see anything much smaller.

So I started researching and found the Eizo L885 21", good color
reproduction, sharp text - good ergonomics color temperature adjustment,
etc. Sounds perfect - or as perfect as I'll get in the imperfect
evolving world of flat panel monitors.

BUT THEN - it runs at 1600x1200. I used my present crt and st it to
that resolution - I absolutely couldn't read it except if I had to for a
piece of emergency information.

I tried large fonts - it didn't do enough.

Finally, I upped the fonts to 200%, I was able to read websites
comfortably - and the same thing happened with Word. But this is a test
on a CRT and I don't know what such an extra extra extra large font will
really do to text readability on a flat screen with a native resolution
of 1600 x 1200.

Also debating between the Eizo 21" and the Eizo 19".

All thoughts and/or suggestions greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this helps answer your question or not, but 1600x1200
on my 20.1" LCD is *much* easier to read than 1600x1200 on my old CRT.

I just changed to large fonts on my LCD and it is easily readable.

You should look at the LCD at 1024x768. Non-native resolutions are not as
sharp as the native one but they are far from unusable. Someone with poor
eyesight might not even be able to see the difference.
