I'm trying to upload large files to my computer, and repeatedly am unable to
do so, getting the message - Data error - cyclic redundancy check. Does
anyone have any idea what this means, and what I could do to allow me to
transfer these files from CD to my computer?

cyclic redundancy check errors basically means that the data that I can read
does not meet the data that it is expecting.

Possible causes are:

Damaged CD
Dirty CD
Dirty CD Drive
Corrupt Data
HD Corruption

You could try reading the CD in another machine.

Hi

That error message means that the file is somehow corrupt. Where are you
trying to download the files from?

Hi,
The files are shape files (sets of files) - mapping coverages that I'm
trying to download from a CD. I know they've downloaded to another computer,
so I'm not sure what the difference is with my machine...

Thanks for any help you may have!

Hi

Have you tried opening the files into the appropriate program, from the CD?
If so, what was the result?

Hi,

I can open the files from Arcview, and read them off the CD that way - I
just can't seem to copy them onto my hard drive. Any ideas??

Hi

If you can open the files in Arcview there can't be a problem with the files
themselves. Have you run chkdsk on the hard disk/partition that you are
trying to copy the files to?
