Laptop problem connecting to Internet

Have set up a Network Switch connected to a Host/Server
computer downstairs, which accesses the internet through
a local Wireless Broadband (Wireless adapter fitted
inside this computer, with aerial on roof, Wireless
system is for this area, to enable more people to get
onto the internet cheaply). Icon shows its connected to
the switch and also says its connected on the Laptop, but
still won't connect to the internet. Which is the reason
for this setup. Think have configured everything ok, at
least cannot think of anything that I have not tried.
Please can anyone give me any suggestions? I am at my
wits end! I am the administrator, so they expect me to
get it working in this house! I don't live in same house
and typing this on my own computer, at home. Please help
me!
