Hello,
Running xp pro sp2 .. on hp ze4200 . Last nite at bedtime, hp was working
fine. I ran defrag ... then this morning at wake up I ran a ckdsk,, monitor
worked fine .
or so I thought .. Now, I can hear it boot up,, I can hear when it goes to
windows. But no monitor. I am new to laptop. I have no service manual . well
it is downloaded into the laptop.
Can someone give me suggestion.. Is there a combination of buttons or
something .. I have just formated this and was running beautifully unitl this
a.m.

Before this problem , I had not had any problems at all with it. So I am
quite dismayed at this. I do have another desktop monitor if I have to go
that way to fix it.

Thanks again,
Pup .. New to laptop but by far not new to newsgroups ...

Its me again,, I have since posting.. connected my desktop monitor to the
laptop, working from it now. I just want to cry .. I have spent so much time
setting this up to make it mine..... I wonder why I keep intesest in the
computers...

Laptops typically have a key combination that allows use of either, the laptop monitor, an external
monitor, or both for group display. You have to hold down the key marked "fn", in the bottom row
of keys, and then one of the Top Row "F" keys. The correct F key will usually have a small icon,
like a screen, on it in another color. Hold down the "fn" key and tap the appropriate top key
(don't go too fast) and see if you don't find that the video is shifted between monitors.

Thank you richard,
I tried your suggestion .. it hasnt helped... I just dont believe the
monitor is out on this thing.... The key was F5...Im going to crawl in a
corner and cry .... I just dont believe its "the monitor" gone out.. because
I had no problems in that area before last nite.... This was given as
replacement for one someone else destroyed...

Thanks .
Pup

Using the auxiliary monitor, have you tried a "System Restore" to just before you did the chkdisk?
and maybe even before the defrag?
Won' hurt to try.

I guess the first thing I would do after all that is to open it up and
look for a bad/loose connection to the display.

Now that you can see your manual, it hasn't been difficult on any I
have taken apart. Just be observant and cautious so you don't break a
piece of palstic.
