I have my connection with a talktalk, as my server. When I take my computer
away from this and access the internet on a wireless connection, my windows
mail refuses to work. ie, not receiving mail or sending. What do I have to
change in the settings for my the mail to come in regardless of the
connection?
Thank you

When you are using an Internet connection not provided by your home ISP,
sending may fail, but receiving mail should continue to function.
Do you get an error message? If so, right-click on your error message,
copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

My problem is that I am using a wirless connection where I'm staying. When I send/receive it prompts me to connect using ISP or broadband, 3 mobile connection and talktalk. Whichever one I use, it either says error 680 - no dialtone if I use talktalk, or 815 for broadband I also get a 797. I have changed one of the settings to detect connection when not dialing a connection, but that doesn't work either. I suppse things are just not pointing to the right instructions. Is there somewhere that I can find these things out? Thanks

Go to Tools, Accounts, select your mail account, Properties, Connection.
What does it show for connection?
You must either leave that unselected (in which case WM will use whatever
connection IE uses), or else select the Local Area Network, which is
normally what you'd want to use for a wireless or non-dialup connection.

Also, under Tools, Options, Connection, the first box should be checked,
and the second box unchecked.

The plot thickens! I've tried accessing the connections tab in every way I
can (within the properties of the account), the program just stops working.
All the other tabs are fine; server, security. As soon as I hit the
connections tab, the hour glass appears and if I click on the window, it
states that the program is not responding. I have allowed it to continue
searching for 30 mins, but nothing changes.
In reference to your other suggestions, I have checked all the the
appropriate boxes and everything is as you suggested.

If Windows Mail locks up when you go to the Connection tab, it means that
account is corrupted. Delete that account, restart Windows Mail, then
recreate the account.

That seems to have done the trick. Could you let me into why it got corrupted?
Thanks for all your help.

Account corruption is usually caused by a non-compatible antivirus program.
