Laptop LCD Inverter Board?

Is anyone here familiar with LCD backlight circuits? I have an old
Dell D600 laptop where the backlight circuit is apparently dying and
it occurred to me that I might be able to repair it because I have
another dead and discarded D600. Then I saw this:

So is the backlight circuit in a typical laptop an entirely separate
board? That makes the possibility of a successful repair much more
likely.

Maybe of interest;

Look at Dell D600, User Guide/Service Manual here;

Yes, it's a separate board. The larger the LCD panel, the more
CCFL tubes and associated inverter boards. An inverter board
can also have more than one inverter circuit on it.

On a large panel, you might see one or two tubes go out,
while the others remain lit. Then you have to trace down,
which one is doing it. Use tape or a marker, to keep track
of which areas are lit and which aren't. You may find a
common inverter, is connected to the wires on those dark
tubes.

Oh, the inverter board in inside the lid with the display.

Yup, so the high voltage cable, CCFL, and inverter are
right next to each other. It would be pretty ugly to
run such a cable through the hinge.
