LAN/Wireless programming

Hi everyone,

I want to code some LAN/wireless programming.
I have 812.11 a/b network card.
Is there an API that I could use and that could provide monitoring data from a regular LAN network and from a wireless network ?

If not, can someone please tell me which API should I use for wireless that supports my network card ?And what API should I use for LAN network ?
