LAN-to-LAN Routing

A

Andre Brown

Here's my problem:

I have a small privet LAN IP range 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.10
with 5 servers and small number of clients, one being a
RAS Router. There is also an other general LAN IP range
172.168.0.1-172.168.255.255 attached to it with many
servers and clients.

I have installed two NIC's in the RAS Router and bound
172.168.222.5 to one, and 192.168.0.1 to the other. I also
set defualt gateways on each nic & network but still can't
get from one network to the other.
Any help would be great Thanks.

You should not have default gateways on both NICs of the router.

The important this here is what is the default gateway of the clients?
If the default gateway of the 172.16 subnet is to some other router, you
will not get the traffic coming to your RRAS router. A simple diagram of
your network (with IP addresses and gateways) would help. eg

Internet
|
router
172.16.x.n
|
LAN machines
172.16.x y dg 172.16.x.n
|
172.16.222.5 dg 172.16.x.n
RRAS
192.168.0.1 dg blank
|
192.168.0.x dg 192.168.0.1

To get a setup like this to route, the Internet router must know how to
reach the 192.168.0 subnet. For example you could add a static route to it
to forward 192.168.0.0 traffic to the RRAS router eg

192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 172.16.222.5
