LAN not available after a reinstall

I reinstalled win2k on a dual boot machine. It boots linux and win2k.
After the reinstall I'm not able to connect to the LAN from win2k. I've
done the reinstall twice, and it never seems to install the necessary
components for recognizing the LAN, just a dial up connection. During
the reinstall it doesn't ask any questions about networking, like which
workgroup I want to be in. When I boot linux on the same box it has no
problem connecting to the LAN with the existing hardware, so the
hardware doesn't seem to be a problem. The machine has the same
hardware as before the reinstall. How can I force win2k to install
the necessary components so that it connects to the LAN?

What makes you think that the network components are not
installed? Did you check your IP addresses?

Did you check Device manager to see if the driver for your NIC is
installed?
Did you check the network connection properties?

Turns out it was a driver problem. It didn't recognize the network
controller, so it didn't offer any options for a local area connection.
When I downloaded a driver for the device from the manufacturer and
tried to install it, windows said it had a more appropriate driver and
installed that instead. Odd that it didn't just us it in the first
place.
